“For last year’s words belong to last year’s language. And next year’s words await another voice.”
The start of a new year brings this unexplainable feeling of wanting to do things differently, don’t you think?
It creates this need to leave your past behaviour behind and adapt new ones that will make this new year different from the last. I hate to admit it but I’ve fallen into the spell of “new year new me”. Well sort of…
To kick start my new year of blogging I’ve decided to change things a little. If you are a day one reader then you’ll know that this happens a lot. I like change. I feel it shows growth and development and I’m all about that this year. However, I’m hoping that this new change will stick around for a while, maybe forever.
So, what is this new change you ask? Well, I’ve decided to start writing to my future self. I want to start writing my posts as though I’m talking to my future self. Yup, you read that right.
Sounds crazy but to me it makes perfect sense. As I’ve been writing on this blog for the past year, there’s one thing that has remained constant, or at least to me it has. I’m writing for an audience of one and that audience is none other than myself. So, I thought why not take it a step further and write to my future self?
During the Christmas holiday, I came to the realisation that everything I do now is for the benefit of my future self, I might as well speak to her directly. Guide her with the wisdom I have now so that she will thank me in future. I practised it a little before making this decision and it felt so natural.
You see, I’m used to talking to myself on a daily basis (that’s how I win most of my arguments) so this made perfect sense to me. It’s something I find comforting and I thought why not try it on my blog.
It might sound silly to some but there are so many benefits in doing this; just Google it. Not the talking to yourself part but writing letters to your future self. I’m willing to explore this idea and see where it leads me and I hope you’ll enjoy this journey with me.
You’re probably wondering where all of this is coming from, right? Well, stay tuned for my next post where I explain how it all began and deliver my first letter to my future self.
Till next time!
Happy New Year and may we all have an amazing 2018!
